All Voters Can Vote for John on March 22
The March 22 city election is a unitary election and John is running for one of five citywide at-large City Council seats. That means all voters, regardless of party affiliation or council district, can vote for John.
The at-large members are elected citywide by all voters while the district council members are elected by only the voters living within their respective district. In an attempt to avoid having all at-large members living in the same part of town (or same neighborhood, for that matter) the city is also divided into 5 at-large residency areas. To clearly differentiate them from districts, the residency areas are instead called "groups." Although still elected citywide by all voters, one at-large council member must reside within each of the "group" boundaries.
